Monday Musings 10.27

The sports equinox—that magical time when all major sports overlap—is today.

NFL. MLB. NHL. NBA. ALL TODAY. Let’s dive in!

MLB: World Series Tied 2–2

Toronto is popping, and the boys are buzzing! I heard a Dodgers fan say they “had to let them win one.” Nah, you actually didn’t. The Blue Jays are America’s team and are better than people give them credit for. We’ll see what happens when the series continues tonight in Southern California.

The Dodgers’ pitching looks dominant, but Toronto is also a big market—unlike the Mariners and Brewers who came before them. This is Goliath vs. Goliath. Also, in case you didn’t know or forgot, Ohtani was courted by Toronto, and now they are facing each other on baseball’s biggest stage. Imagine if they’d landed him!

NBA: Chauncey Billups Scandal Rocks the League

The wrong trail has been blazed, and running card games is a grift that never left us. Gambling may be more legal than ever, but throwing games and cheating at poker are still illegal. Oh Chauncey, you had such a good name. Also Rozier—shaking my head. The NBA desperately needs a life skills department.

NFL: Packers vs. Steelers in Pittsburgh Thriller

Aaron Rodgers vs. his old squad (my squad)! The Green Bay Packers haven’t won in Pittsburgh since the ’70s, until yesterday. The Steelers wore all yellow—maybe so Rodgers would remember to throw to them in Sunday night football’s marquee matchup. Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) was electric. Jordan Love. Aaron Rodgers. Black and yellow and green. Go Pack Go!

The Packers won by ten and finally got a win in the Steel City.

Football is so violent. We don’t talk about this enough.

NHL: Marchand’s Emotional Return to Boston

Brad Marchand returned to Boston and got emotional. He plays hard and with heart—exactly the kind of player you want on your team.

As always, go Oilers!

F1: Norris Dominates Mexico Grand Prix

Things got fiery and spicy with the Mercedes’ driver George Russell! Mad respect to Haas and Ollie Bearman for finishing fourth—the bear essentials, the bear necessities.

Lando Norris was the clear winner, and the championship is heating up.

Lando hasn’t led the championship since the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. This was McLaren’s first win in Mexico since 1989 and Lando was dominant the whole race. He now leads Oscar Piastri by one point in the championship. Piastri finished fifth.

Leclerc finished second. Verstappen third. Good for them. A yellow flag turned into a virtual safety car to end the race. The FIA made another weird decision and we got half a lap of racing to close things out.
