Monday Musings

What a whirlwind weekend in the sports world! From heartbreak on the gridiron to hope on the Formal 1 track to catching playoff fever, let’s dive into everything that caught my attention this weekend.

NFL Surprises

Let’s talk football disappointments – my Green Bay Packers completely failed to show up against… THE CLEVELAND BROWNS. Yes, you read that correctly. The BROWNS. I’m still processing this reality. Yes, I know it’s only week one but that was a tough watch. The combined score going into the half was three points. Le sigh. Where did Love go? Insert punny song lyric here.

Formula 1

There was heartbreak for Australian driver Oscar Piastri and McLaren in Azerbaijan on Sunday, though Carlos Sainz and Williams fans have plenty to celebrate. The Aussie’s misfortune became another team’s opportunity in what’s shaping up to be an unpredictable season. The car in Papaya still leads the constructors’ championship with seven races to go. Next up, the Singapore Grand Prix kicks off the spooky season.

MLB Wild Card Race Heating Up

Speaking of spooky cauldrons, the baseball wild card race is reaching a boiling point with just one week remaining in the regular season. I’ll be revisiting our way-too-early World Series predictions from opening day in my next post. Are you ready for the “yoffs” (that’s playoffs for the uninitiated)? I certainly am. There is nothing like playoff baseball.

Hockey Stuff

With hockey season about to drop the puck, my eyes are on Edmonton. C’mon Connor McDavid, aka McJesus, the Oilers need your divine intervention this season!

Ryder Cup Geopolitics

Hot take: The Ryder Cup has higher stakes for Team USA this year because of—wait for it— geopolitical reasons. I stand by this completely rational and not-at-all exaggerated analysis. The winner of The Ryder Cup will succeed in total world domination, obvi.

So much sportsball happening, so little time. Got any hot takes from this past weekend? What will you be watching this week?

Cheers,

Sarah
