Two Delightful MLB Debuts Worth Celebrating

While the trade deadline approaches and Ke’Bryan Hayes has already departed the Steel City for Cin City (Cincinnati), there are more pressing matters at hand. Two players just made their MLB debuts, and boy oh boy do they have spectacular names! Get the champagne out.

Warming Jose Bernabel

As if the planet wasn’t already warm enough.

Signed as a Free Agent with the Colorado Rockies on July 2, 2018.

23,543rd player to debut in major league history.

With a name that sounds like a climate change forecast, Warming Bernabel, native of Bani, Dominican Republic, has officially arrived in the big leagues courtesy of the Colorado Rockies. This young infielder brings both talent and possibly the most topical name in baseball today. Announcers will undoubtedly have a field day with this one. Here’s hoping he warms up to the majors nicely.

Pierson Blaine Ohl

Good Ohl’ Pierson, am I right?

Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 14th round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ).

23,545th player to debut in major league history.

Not to be outdone in the name department, Pierson Ohl has also just earned his call-up to the show. He sounds like he should be wearing a fedora, smoking a cigar, and discussing investment opportunities with other oil tycoons, but instead, this California-native right-hander will be hurling fastballs and painting corners of the plate. We certainly can’t forget his middle name: Blaine. To quote one of my favorite movies Pretty in Pink, “His name is Blaine?! That’s not a name; that’s a major appliance!”

Congrats to these young men on getting their bag! Drinks on them.

Cheers!

Sarah
