The Leaderboard of the AL West is my Groundhogs Day

Ahhh spring time, one of the best times of the year. The days begin to lengthen. The flowers start to bloom. The warm weather starts to stick around for more days at a time.

And the Mariners are at the top of the AL West.

Every year, I look forward to this point in the calendar. Coming out of winter, I love the changing of seasons.

I see the baby ducklings swimming around the river, full of life and possibility.

Well, be careful there little duck. Don’t get your hopes up too much. Because the circle of life is cruel like a lurking alligator just below the surface looking for lunch.

That’s how I feel as an M’s fan, because it’s normally the only time when the Mariners are at the top of the division.

Believe me, I have maybe never felt so good about where my Mariners stand at the beginning of May. We are legitimately one of the hottest teams in baseball.

It looks like the Big Dumper is going to shit on every record of any past Mariners catchers (move aside Dan Wilson). The guy is at the top of the home run leaderboard, while holding a respectable .233 AVG to go along with his .884 OPS.

Not to mention, Jorge Polanco is having the best season of his career after an abysmal 2024. Nine dingers, .384 AVG, and an absurd 1.226 OPS. We’re talking about a legitimate MVP candidate.

We have a handful of other dudes that are stepping up to the plate in a big way (pun intended). The Mariners boast one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. And our defense is solid.

If all these guys are able to keep their bats hot, Logan Gilbert is able to return from injury, and if Julio can return to form at some point, we are talking about legitimate World Series contenders.

Believe me, I’m not getting my hopes up. Like how I started this blog, it’s May. Do you know how many times I’ve felt like this in the past 20 years?

While I’m waiting for the impending doom (and gloom) of a serious fall off, I’m going to try this whole positivity thing out. Cuz why not. It’s spring, and I’ve got a little bounce in my step.

Go ‘Ners!!!
