It took thirteen innings on a cold but sunny April day in Pittsburgh, but somebody had to do it—and yesterday, that somebody was Joey Bart. I had a free afternoon, so I figured I’d catch a baseball game and get myself to God’s country. Luckily, I was sitting in the sun because it was otherwise pretty nippy. My nose actually got sunburned!

Anyway, neither the Cardinals nor the Pirates scored until the 12th inning!? Not even with the new extra-innings rule where the last batter out of the previous inning starts on second. I was getting tired of the scoreless stretch, so around the 7th inning, every time Joey Bart came up to bat, I turned to my former Pirates colleague and asked, “Is Joey Bart gonna be a hero?”
He took one for the team in the 7th and got hit by a pitch, but it wasn’t until the 13th inning—game tied at one—that he FINALLY became the hero I knew (or at least hoped) was in him all along. He hit a walk-off against the Cardinals’ seventh pitcher of the game—Roycroft. I’m glad I stayed to watch it, but boy, were my toes cold as I walked back toward downtown across the Clemente Bridge. What a way to spend a Wednesday afternoon! Bonus baseball!

In other news, I told y’all Florida was going to win it all. Houston, you let me—and Beyoncé—down. Thank goodness her tour starts soon.
And now: golf! It’s a holy weekend in the world of golf—the Masters Tournament. I hate the name, but I love the jacket. Every year, the winner is awarded the iconic green blazer (aka the green jacket). I’m in it for the threads.
My predictions for this year’s winner:
- Scottie Scheffler (going for the three-peat)
- Collin Morikawa (he’s been edging closer to a win this year)
- Some guy on LIV

Cheers to sunny baseball days and green-jacket weekends ahead!
