Today’s the day! The tank is clean.

Baseball is back, baby! Opening Day of Major League Baseball should be a national holiday. If baseball truly is America’s pastime, why don’t we, as a nation, get the day off? The Super Bowl should also be on the Sunday before Presidents’ Day so everyone gets the next day off. America needs to lean into leisure more and break free from grind culture. Nothing’s awesome about burnout.

Anyhoo, here at Kitchen Sink Sports we’re beyond excited to welcome the boys of summer back to the field. Here are our (and some of our friends’) way-too-early postseason predictions:

• Sarah: Yankees vs. Phillies
• Roni: Royals vs. Dodgers
• Liv: Mariners vs. Phillies
• Conor: Red Sox vs. Diamondbacks
• Missy: Yankees vs. Dodgers
• Derek: Red Sox vs. Phillies

It’s a long season in Mudville—162 games to be exact. Each team will play 81 home games in front of their fans, winning hearts and, hopefully, games. Good luck to all players, teams, and front offices this season! We know it’s a never-ending grind, but you do it for the love of the game. Play ball!

Speaking of playing ball…

The NCAA basketball tourney resumes today with the Sweet 16.

To recap, my heart was betting on:

• University of Houston (because everything’s bigger in Texas)
• St. John’s (they’re due for a miracle)
• University of New Mexico (hometown pride!) –> Everyone’s a Lobo – woof woof woof! (Yes, I howl this in public)

But alas, only one remains from my beloved list. Go Houston! Make Beyoncé proud! Even though Florida will probably win it all.

The Houston Open (golf tourney) also starts today! Again, I’m rooting for Lanto Griffin—previous winner of the Houston Open. He has a great name for golf, and Star Wars. I’m also always rooting for Rory McIlroy (as long as he’s done thieving) and Joel Dahmen, because who doesn’t love a funny man?

Hockey is still on too! Go Oilers :)

So many sports, so little time. Le sigh.
