What a weekend of sports!
Did I call that Lando would win or what?! In a race that had more plot twists than a Netflix series, The Australian Grand Prix was chaotic in every sense of the word. Max seemed unusually happy with a second-place finish, maybe because he actually had fun racing or perhaps the taste of humble pie isn’t so bad after all. The fact that SIX cars, including five rookies, didn’t finish the race is wild but expected when the track is wet. The track in Melbourne is never easy.
Now that I no longer work in sports, I’ve entered the wild world of sports betting (thank you, legal gambling state!). My strategy? Hedge against my emotions. So, I put down $1 on Max Verstappen to win in Australia in hopes that Lando would win so my wallet would be empty, but my heart would be full. Sometimes, the best wins are the ones that cost you a buck!
And then there’s The Players Championship…
The final round of play was suspended due to inclement weather, and it went to a playoff this morning between Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun. Can we talk about how J.J. Spaun sounds like a bond villain? Any why Rory is stealing people’s phones? What in the world? Anyway, Rory ending up winning and taking home $4.5 million dollars – so maybe he can give that guys phone back now. I’d say he had quite the productive Monday morning!
Now onto the madness of it all.
Happy March Madness to all who celebrate! Time for underdogs to become top dogs and brackets to be busted faster than New Year’s resolutions.
Here’s when the magic happens:
- First Four: March 18-19
- First round: March 20-21
- Second round: March 22-23
- Sweet 16: March 27-28
- Elite Eight: March 29-30
- Final Four: April 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
- NCAA championship game: April 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas

My heart’s betting on:
- University of Houston (because everything’s bigger in Texas)
- St. John’s (they’re due for a miracle)
- University of New Mexico (hometown pride!)
- Everyone’s a Lobo – woof woof woof! (Yes, I howl this in public)
And just when you think the sports calendar couldn’t get any better, baseball is warming up in the bullpen. Play ball, anyone?
